Job title: Scientific Services Manager – Synergy
Location: Oxford, UK

Synergy is seeking a Scientific Services Manager to join a global pharmaceutical company based in Oxford.
Synergy provides on-site Scientific Services for pharmaceutical clients and collaborates closely with them to deliver core scientific activities.
This pivotal role involves managing the daily operations of invitro laboratories at the Oxford site, ensuring high standards of health & safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The manager will also oversee a mid-sized team of research and lab assistants conducting scientific activities and in vitro experiments.
The position is split approximately 50% between lab-based scientific support and 50% team management.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Line management of the research team, including performance reviews, development, and wellbeing support.
* Planning and allocation of tasks within the research team and liaising with relevant coordinators.
* Participating in recruitment of new team members.
* Serving as the primary contact for stakeholders, including clients and internal teams.
* Ensuring activities comply with behaviors and values of Synergy and NNRCO.
* Communicating progress and issues to stakeholders and escalating as needed.
* Managing laboratory readiness, best practices, and performance metrics.
* Coordinating with facilities for lab operations and supplies.
* Managing lab consumables, including ordering and stock management.
* Supporting procedures, SOPs, risk assessments, and compliance policies.
* Promoting good laboratory practices and health & safety standards.
* Leading continuous improvement initiatives.
* Managing storage, inventory, and autoclave operations.
* Qualifications include a scientific degree, lab management experience, people management skills, proficiency with IT platforms like LIMS, understanding of COSHH and health & safety regulations, SOP and risk assessment development skills, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
