We have an exciting opportunity to join our Site Management Team within Scarborough and York Hospitals. The role of the Site Matron is fundamental to ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care and a positive patients experience which is responsive to the needs of the patients, families and their carer’s whilst ensuring national safety target are adhered to and met. We are seeking an experienced registered nurse who has strong leadership skills and is passionate about developing services and patient care and safety. This post holder will require knowledge, skill and attention to detail to continue to deliver real improvements in quality and improve patient safety targets within the acute hospitals. Main duties of the job
· Provide strong clinical leadership, advice, support and challenge which ensures that the professional standards achieved by nurses, midwives and allied health professionals meet the standards required in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Codes of Practice for self and others. · Be a positive role model, demonstrating behaviours in line with organisational and professional values and codes. · Participate at regional and national levels on relevant issues, developing networks and partnerships, sharing best practice and integrating this knowledge within the Trust.. · Lead on promoting and monitor the adherence of infection control policies and procedures. Ensure the working environment is clean and fit for purpose. · Ensure that teams promote improved patient experience by being aware of the national standards for emergency patient flow, and work in partnership with Trust colleagues to deliver them in a safe and timely way. · Lead specific programmes of Quality Improvement to improve standards for patients and ensure the delivery of high-quality safe care. · Work in accordance with the strategic direction, objectives and policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines of the Trust. · Work to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, service users and colleagues, taking any necessary corrective action as appropriate to prevent any deterioration in service standards, or to the safety and welfare of patients and staff. · Lead on the implementation of evidence-based practice for Quality Assurance and Improvement within areas and services, enabling the development of an exceptional quality based service for patients and relatives/carers. · Promote delivery of the CQC Core Standards across Trust services. · Manage and coordinate the development and delivery of demand and capacity of the site and bed management plans to ensure there is sufficient capacity on a day-to-day basis to support the Trust in achieving standards relating to emergency and elective access, mixed sex accommodation, infection, safety and other bed related capacity issues. · The post holder will ensure site and patient flow has an appropriately skilled and qualified workforce, deployed in the most efficient and cost-effective way to deliver high quality care to our patients and clients. This will include being accountable for developing the required workforce, including innovation and developments in practice, creating the right environment to retain and develop talent. · Co-ordinates complex workforce deployment changes and reallocation of nursing resources to maximise patient flow in response to ever-changing demand levels. Liaises with Care Group Matrons and/or Ward Managers as required. Inspires others to be positive in their contribution to continuous improvement and innovation, including adjusting plans where necessary

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
1. Level 1 Registered Nurse
2. Master level qualification in health care leadership or in a relevant nursing specialty or equivalent qualifications or knowledge
3. Post Graduate qualification in Health Service Management or equivalent experience
4. Evidence of Continuing professional Development
Desirable criteria
5. Operational Health Commander Training
6. Other relevant specialist training/courses as part of CPD
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
7. At least 3 years at senior level in nursing
8. Additional specialised knowledge of healthcare leadership acquired through experience combined with demonstrable evidence of specialist work, short courses and extended self-study
9. Experience of implementing change in clinical practice or service delivery to improve the quality of patient care
10. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the national policy context for nursing practice and development, including knowledge of the nursing strategy, NHS Plan and National Service frameworks
11. Extensive knowledge of National standards relating to patient flow
12. Knowledge of HR policies/procedures relevant to managing people and able to effectively manage a team
13. Excellent negotiation and facilitation skills and able to manage conflict situations including where significant barriers to understanding or acceptance exist such as lack of understanding of OPEL levels across the organisation and the need to balance the needs of all patients across all sites; and co-operation is required.
