Data Scientist II, Trips
Booking.com is looking for a Data Scientist II to join our Trips team in Manchester. You will work on data science solutions for trip products, collaborating with product, data engineering, and analytics teams.
Role Overview
This data scientist II role is a core DS level within Booking.com. As a Data Scientist II you will be working within the Trips Data Science & Analytics (DS&A) team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of DS&A in Manchester. You will be involved in various stages of data science solutions, from ideation to implementation, working independently on data consumption and preparation and solving business problems through statistical analysis and modeling. You are expected to continuously learn, expand technical competencies, engage with peers, understand the larger data ecosystem, and ensure the quality of your work through peer review.
Key Responsibilities
* Partner with commercial, data engineering and product teams to develop new methods for understanding how our business decisions impact our customers.
* Develop knowledge and awareness of trips economics to drive and influence the product roadmap across both product & commercial functions.
* Look beyond the short‑term Connected Trip perspective, determining & optimising for long‑term metrics.
* Work closely with product & engineering, data management & data engineering teams to support our product vision.
* Provide data science support to product stakeholders to enable data‑driven decisions.
* Design and interpret quantitative experiments to guide key business decision‑making.
* Deliver end‑to‑end data science solutions in collaboration with product and research teams.
* Continuously review product engagement and performance, generating insights and hypotheses for new experiments to drive product growth.
* Implement learnings in replicating product success to other areas within Intent Discovery and Platform.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Proven experience working in Data Science roles; advanced degree preferred (Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics or similar).
* Strong background in ranking/economics.
* Strong working knowledge of probability and statistics.
* Strong working knowledge of experimentation, including A/B testing and power analysis.
* Strong SQL and at least one scripting language (Python or R).
* Analytical, strategic, entrepreneurial, and data‑driven mindset.
* Comfortable interacting with stakeholders worldwide.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Strong commercial acumen.
* Flexibility to adapt to change and thrive in ambiguity.
* Familiarity with optimisation techniques.
