​ Salary Level: AFC Pay scale Band 3 (£13,189.25 - £14,067.85) ​ Hours: 22.5 Hours Per Week (3 days per week) for 37 weeks per year (Term-time) Responsible to: Head Nurse and School Nurse ​ General: Mary Hare educates profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire, and we pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Level as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children, in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy. ​ Job Purpose: To work alongside nurses to deliver high quality care, support, and health education to pupils across both our primary and secondary provisions. ​ Main Duties and Responsibilities Accompanying pupils to medical appointments Provide first aid training Administer medication when needed (training will be provided) Providing support and health education to pupils on food monitoring Support staff, caring for pupils with a range of medical conditions including type 1 diabetes Updating the medical centre notice board with eye catching up to date health promotion Being responsible for preparing, restocking, and checking first aid kits Checking stock levels of medical supplies and compiling an order list of items required Assisting nurses with administrative tasks Keep allergy list and first aiders list up to date Additionally, you may be required to work outside of your contracted hours if accompanying a pupil to an appointment or hospital, but we will endeavour to provide another member of staff to take over care ​ About You: Essential: First Aid Trained A good standard of English & Maths Previous experience in healthcare, school, or SEN setting Willingness to learn and participate in diabetes care Good communication skills Clean driving licence for Manual car Desirable: Understanding or experience of diabetes Business car insurance ​ Skills and Personal Qualities Able to perform well and remain professional whilst under pressure Tactful and discreet, whilst mindful of observing Safeguarding and professional standards Capable of working in a changing environment Proactive in the use of policy and procedure Reliable and stable Well-developed problem-solving skills Good numeric and computer skills Practical and constructional Adaptable and Flexible to meet requirements Supportive and Empathetic Good organisational skills Have an interest in health promotion and developing pupils’ independence ​ How to Apply!
