Technical Sales Engineer – FMCG / Food Processing / Turnkey Engineering Solutions - c. £45k p/a - Cambridge Area

We’re working with a long-established engineering business delivering innovative food processing solutions for over 40 years. With expansion into new markets and a growing focus on full turnkey projects, they’re looking to appoint a Technical Sales Engineer to strengthen their bid and sales capability.
This is a high-impact role at the heart of the sales process — combining engineering expertise, cost estimation, and commercial awareness to convert opportunities into successful projects.
The Role
As Technical Sales Engineer, you will provide technical and application support to the Sales team, ensuring solutions are technically robust, commercially sound, and professionally presented.
You will be responsible for:
* Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for engineering and food processing solutions
* Creating and delivering high-quality technical and commercial proposals
* Reviewing bid scope to ensure all products, services, and risks are fully captured in pricing
* Supporting customer visits, site surveys, and technical discussions
* Presenting quotations, proposals, and contract documentation to clients
* Liaising with engineering, procurement, project management, and suppliers to gather technical input
* Assisting with full sales cycle support, from prospecting to deal closure
* Producing drawings using AutoCAD
* Preparing structured handover documentation for Project Managers
* This role occasionally involves accompanying the sales team on client visits.
What We’re Looking For
* 3+ years’ experience in a Technical Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, or similar role
* Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Food Engineering or related discipline)
* Strong cost estimation and commercial proposal experience
* Background within FMCG, food, beverage, or process industries (highly desirable)
* Ability to read, interpret, and produce drawings in AutoCAD (SolidWorks advantageous)
* Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint capability
* Confident communicator with experience producing technical specifications and quotations
* Commercially aware with proven ability to convert sales opportunities
* Highly organised, detail-focused, and comfortable working to tight deadlines
