Job overview

This post is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in leading and innovative development of teams and services. You will have the unique prospect of working as part of a dynamic team. A strong support network is available on site and lots of exciting development opportunities.

This role will be based at York Hospital and you will lead / mange the adult dietetic and speech and language therapy services based in the surgery care group. This includes critical care, in-patients wards and out- patients

Main duties of the job

Duties include staff management, recruitment, induction, appraisal, locality training and service development. You will also have responsibility for shift and workload allocation as well as rota planning. Support will be available from other team managers as well as clinical advice from advanced clinical specialists / clinical leads in this area and professional leads.

A relevant degree or equivalent with current HCPC registration is essential. The successful candidate will have a broad range of post graduate experience, with at least some in a relevant clinical area and should include working at a senior level, and taking responsibility for other members of staff.

Ability to support others in skills development and complex discharge management is essential and understanding of complex care management within the NHS environment is also beneficial.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Broad range of post graduate experience within relevant clinical settings. This should include working at a senior level with some responsibility for other team members.
9. Post graduate experience in managing a wide range of conditions, evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations.
10. Ability to act as a patient advocate
11. Ability to support others in skills development eg clinical workload, complex discharge planning, time management, caseload management, prescription of specialist equipment.
12. Active contribution to audit.
13. Evidence of clinical, organizational and managerial knowledge- including ability to undertake more complex problem solving in these areas.
14. Experience of working with patients who have multi pathology presentations.
15. Experience of taking a lead role within a Team.
16. Ability to pass on specialist skills/knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments.
17. Experience as Clinical supervisor to graduate level students
18. Knowledge of workplace and clinical risk evaluation and management

Desirable criteria

19. Recognised post graduate training within specialist area.
20. Appropriate validated clinical courses within specialisms
21. Relevant MSc modules within relevant clinical field
22. State registration with relevant professional body understanding of professional direction/support available.
23. Membership of appropriate clinical support or network group
24. Experience of working in a client-driven/NHS environment.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

25. Diploma/Degree in relevant profession Health Profession Council Registration
26. Evidence of relevant CPD which may include a range of specialist clinical courses and/or working alongside specialist clinicians within relevant specialty.
27. Practice placement qualification or training
28. Willingness to undertake appropriate agreed training in management/clinical skills as required.

Desirable criteria

29. Experience as a Team Leader within relevant setting
30. Advanced knowledge of a broad range of conditions
31. Presentation and Teaching skills within large group or classroom situation.
32. Proven record of Health promotion, lifestyle choices and integration with external organisations.
33. Experience in the use/provision of relevant specialist equipment
34. Experience in contribution to Specialist/national/regional network groups.
35. Experience of contribution to specialist training within university environment
