Clinical Endoscopy Fellow
The closing date is 10 July 2025
Reports to: Dr Andrew Fowell, Clinical Lead
We are looking to appoint an Endoscopy Fellow to the Department of Gastroenterology at Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH), Portsmouth, which is a busy District General Hospital caring for a population of over 600,000.
The Endoscopy Department at QA Hospital has an international reputation as a Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy. Professor Pradeep Bhandari leads a very active endoscopy research programme and supervises a team of four research fellows and two full-time research nurses. We participate in and run several national multicentre trials. The department has an excellent publishing record and supports the endoscopy fellow to contribute to this.
As a National JAG Training Centre, endoscopy training in QAH is renowned. We run JAG courses such as Basic Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, and Train the Trainers. An annual International Advanced Endoscopy Symposium is held with national and international expert faculty. We also conduct workshops on endoscopic submucosal dissection and advanced therapeutic endoscopy (as part of the BSG ESD working group).
There is a regular educational session for all gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy medical staff, including case presentations, governance topics, talks from invited speakers, and IBD MDT meetings.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
The post includes 6 service endoscopy lists. Additional lists for advanced endoscopy training are tailored to your needs. There may be opportunities to assist with clinics and Capsule Endoscopy reporting, depending on your interests. The department performs a wide range of advanced endoscopy procedures such as complex diagnostic assessments, RFA, EMR, ESD, FTRD, POEMS, and therapeutic ERCP/EUS, providing excellent research and training opportunities.
Ward work or on-call commitments are not typically required but can be reviewed if desired. The role offers excellent opportunities for research projects within advanced endoscopy and may suit a mid-training Specialist Registrar or someone who has completed training and wishes to undertake further endoscopy training before becoming a Consultant.
