Main duties of the job
* To establish Anaesthesia as integral to the peri‑operative outcomes of paediatric surgery.
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of anaesthesia.
* To share, with colleagues, responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of the anaesthetic department.
* Teaching and training of anaesthetists in training / resident doctors and medical students where applicable.
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
* To participate in quality improvement, data analysis and information presentation, and service development, as appropriate.
* To attend care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate.
* Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out‑of‑hours responsibilities.
* Deliver pre‑operative assessment sessions.

Qualifications
Essential
* GMC registration
* GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) in anaesthetics at time of interview.
* FRCA or equivalent
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in anaesthesia.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Paediatric anaesthesia in accordance with Royal College expectation of Adult General Anaesthetist with Certificate of Completion of Training.
Desirable
* APLS
* Management of Multi‑Disciplinary Teams
Experience
Essential
* Paediatric anaesthesia at advanced level, e.g. a minimum of 6 months Stage 3 Special Interest Area (SIA) in paediatric anaesthesia.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in anaesthesia.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Experienced in clinical audit and clinical governance and the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and ensuring this is embedded in clinical practice.
* Emergency CEPOD and trauma experience.
* Ultrasound‑guided venous access and regional anaesthesia.
Desirable
* Specialist expertise and experience desirable in:
* Paediatric transfer medicine
* Paediatric intensive care medicine
* Professional management and leadership
