Technical Surveyor & Commissioning Supervisor
Location: South of England, with travel elsewhere as and when required.
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Position Summary
The Technical Surveyor & Commissioning Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the effective planning, technical validation, and commissioning of electronic security systems across assigned projects. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, meticulous documentation skills, and the ability to supervise installation and commissioning activities in accordance with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations. The successful candidate will act as a key technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, providing guidance, oversight, and quality assurance to ensure the successful delivery of integrated security solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Surveying and Planning
* Conduct comprehensive site surveys to assess technical requirements, environmental conditions, and system integration considerations.
* Prepare formal survey reports, technical assessments, equipment placement proposals, and detailed cable routing documentation. Validate project design documentation and provide recommendations to optimize system performance, compliance, and constructability.
* Identify potential risks, constraints, and opportunities for improvement during the pre-installation phase.
2. Commissioning Management and Execution
* Develop and implement commissioning methodologies, schedules, and test procedures in alignment with project specifications.
* Supervise and execute the commissioning of electronic security systems, including CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, Intercom, and associated integrated technologies.
* Conduct functional testing, configuration validation, system calibration, and performance optimization. Ensure that all commissioning activities are properly documented, including test results, acceptance records, and as-built system data.
3. Project Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
* Collaborate with project managers, design teams, contractors, and vendors to coordinate technical activities and ensure alignment with project milestones.
* Provide authoritative technical clarification and support during installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
* Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and technical workshops, presenting updates and reporting deviations or risks as required.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance
* Ensure adherence to corporate engineering standards, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.
* Perform quality inspections to verify that installation and commissioning activities comply with design specifications and contractual standards.
* Escalate technical issues and propose corrective measures to safeguard system integrity and project delivery timelines.
* Maintain full and accurate technical documentation for audit, compliance, and handover purposes.
5. Technical Leadership and Support
* Provide mentorship, direction, and technical support to engineering personnel, field technicians, and subcontractors.
* Support client training and technical handover activities to ensure end‑users receive comprehensive system knowledge.
* Contribute to corporate knowledge‑based development by documenting lessons learned and emerging technologies.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational and Professional Requirements
* A minimum of 3–7 years of relevant experience in electronic security system commissioning, technical surveying, or system integration.
* Manufacturer certifications from major security system vendors (e.g., C‑Cure, Genetec, Milestone, Axis, Honeywell, Gallagher).
* In‑depth knowledge of electronic security systems, IP networking, system integration architectures, and associated infrastructure.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and construction documentation.
* Proficiency in diagnostic tools, commissioning instruments, and configuration software.
* Familiarity with industry standards (NSI Nacoss Gold) and applicable regulatory frameworks.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high standard of professionalism.
* Proven ability to supervise field activities and coordinate multiple technical workstreams.
* High attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy and documentation quality.
Working Conditions
* Primarily site‑based with travel to various client or project locations as required.
* Work may involve entry into secure, industrial, or construction environments and may require occasional after‑hours support during critical commissioning phases.

Salary & Package
Salary Band: £60,000 - £70,000 basic pay
Hours: 8hr day, hours flexible to certain scope
Overtime: Overtime available with planned commissioning works, where additional time or outside of standard hours working is required.
