We are currently recruiting an Underwriter to form a key part of Chubb's Corporate Construction Industry Practice Underwriting Team in Birmingham, to work on the construction book of business. You will have responsibility for growth of the Middle Market Portfolio whilst maintaining and developing a portfolio of existing accounts. This position will suit someone with experience with Middle Market clients in Construction Liability and Contractors Risks in the Midlands Region and will have a focus on growing Chubb’s external profile in this market.

Key Responsibilities:
1. To underwrite new business and renewals according to defined underwriting guidelines, specified budget and local business plan.
2. To represent and promote Chubb corporately to brokers, internal stakeholders and external clients.
3. Servicing key producers and clients, through an engaged programme of pro-active external visitation, monitoring business acquisition and retention as well as maximising cross-selling opportunities.
4. To assist in formulating and implementing underwriting strategy, forecasts and portfolio management in order to achieve underwriting profitability. To ensure quality control within defined area of responsibility.
5. To meet company standards in respect of policy documentation, timeframe for quoting new and renewal business and compliance issues.
6. To provide mentoring, training and coaching to junior colleagues where appropriate. In so doing, ensuring a high-quality underwriting team.
7. To allocate resources to meet business objectives.
Skills & Experience:
8. Understanding and working knowledge of Corporate Construction Casualty & Contract Works, the insurance market and competitors.
9. Experience dealing with brokers and clients with the ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
10. Proficient in sales and marketing as well being a pro-active self-starter who is confident to make decisions, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and / or managers and to refer to colleagues when required, in order to drive results.
11. Ideally will have established external broker relationships in relevant local markets.
12. Ideally ACII qualified or working towards.
13. Self-motivated team player, with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who co-ordinates across departments and has a willingness to develop their own technical and broader business skills.
