Service Centre Supervisor – Requisition 11312
Location: Beacon Barracks, Stafford, Staffordshire, West Midlands. Permanent on site.
Competitive salary with overtime – Monday 06:00 to Saturday 23:59 – Time and a Half, Saturday midnight to Monday 05:59 – Double Time, Bank Holidays – Double Time plus normal statutory payment for day worked. Includes a van.
Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Role Overview: The Service Centre Supervisor will oversee the preparation, planning and supervision of the internal Service Life Extension Programme (SLEP) at Stafford, managing engineers and ensuring quality delivery within Amey Defence equipment. The role includes supervising an engineering team, overseeing safety and process compliance, and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* Reporting to the SLEP Centre Manager.
* Support and assist team members by identifying training requirements, addressing performance issues, and demonstrating opportunities for improvement.
* Improve communication between engineers and core business departments to ensure all colleagues feel part of the One MITER Team and are aware of business objectives, performance, and customer issues.
* Employ effective supervisory skills to manage the engineering team, coordinate objectives and tasks, and support ongoing performance improvement.
* Observe and comply with all company policies, including Health and Safety, Van Policy, Ethics Policy, Company Expense Policy, IT User policy and all contract appendices.
* Ensure all quotes raised to cover the cost to rectify non‑fair wear and tear repairs are prepared in accordance with agreed procedures, submitted for approval and executed within agreed timelines and KPI standards.
* Ensure adequate engineering resources are available to deliver required output of SLEP assets during normal working hours and throughout the calendar year, including weekend cover as required.
* Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed within contractual timeframes and KPI requirements, managing and minimising Work in Progress (WIP).
* Work with service centres and SMEs to resolve rectification issues and complaints arising from repairs, customer issues and Performance Improvement Opportunity reports.
* Ensure high‑quality, consistent customer service is delivered to all customers, supporting regular meetings with stakeholders across MOD and the user community.
* Carry out inspections and quality checks of equipment before and after any SLEP work to ensure consistent standards.
* Delegate work, supervise and mentor a team of plant and HGV engineers.
* Balance workshop duties and office duties with a target ratio of 75:25.
* Apply cost‑effective solutions to equipment maintenance and third‑party contractor use in liaison with the Equipment Sustainability and Refurbishment Manager and SLEP Manager.
* Promote and adhere to the organisation’s culture and values.
* Any other duties deemed appropriate within the scope of the role and in line with skills and experience.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience in construction related plant/MHE/HGV use and/or maintenance.
* Demonstrated people supervisory skills and desire to promote customer service excellence.
* Excellent communication with internal and external groups.
* Understanding of cultural differences and ability to adapt appropriately.
* Solutions‑based approach to issues.
* Application of Health & Safety requirements.
* High level of commercial/financial awareness.
* City & Guilds, NVQ LVL 2 or 3, or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
* Current driving licence.
* HGV Class C – desirable.
* Previous experience supervising in a Service Centre type environment.
Mandatory requirement: eligibility to obtain and maintain MoD security clearance.
