Neurodevelopmental Support Worker (Powys SPACE)
Job description
There are two positions available
About the role:
Are you passionate and dedicated about supporting children's neurodevelopment and making a real difference in young lives?
We are looking to recruit two Neurodevelopmental Workers to work with Children, Young people and their families at an early Intervention and Prevention level to improve outcomes and prevent escalation.
The Neurodiversity (ND) Worker will work directly with children, young people and their families in line with the NYTH/NEST Framework to promote understanding, inclusion and positive outcomes for neurodivergent children. The post holder will use a strengths-based, child-centred approach to provide guidance, practical support and
help families to build on existing strengths, increase confidence and reduce barriers to participation at home, in education and within the community.
The role involves working collaboratively with parents, carers, schools and partner agencies to ensure that support is coordinated, proportionate and responsive to need. The ND Worker will contribute to early intervention and prevention by supporting families at the right time, empowering them to understand their child’s needs and to
develop strategies that promote wellbeing, resilience and positive relationships. The role involves building trusting, compassionate relationships with parents, offering practical guidance, emotional containment and evidence-informed strategies that build confidence and reduce blame or stigma. Working collaboratively with families and
partner agencies, the ND Worker will help ensure support is joined-up, proportionate and responsive, empowering parents to advocate for their children and strengthening the family’s capacity to meet their child’s needs. The new ND workers will work within our new multi-disciplinary Powys SPACE (Single Point of Access for Children’s Emotional wellbeing) team to provide needs‑based support to children and young people (0–25) and their families where neurodevelopmental (ND) needs are identified or suspected and there are related emotional wellbeing challenges.
You will be responsible for providing practical support in a variety of settings, including the home; and to improve the social/emotional development of the child/young person by promoting positive parenting skills and healthy relationships. This bespoke, practical and timely support will be directed by multidisciplinary panel discussions, triaging and by referrals.
You will work independently and collaboratively with colleagues across Parenting Teams, Children’s Services, Education, Youth Services, Health Partners, ALN Teams, community providers and third‑sector agencies.
We are looking for someone with relevant professional qualifications. You will have experience working with children and families with neurodevelopmental conditions. You will have access to ongoing professional development and training opportunities. Supporting our staff is very important to us and we offer staff supervision on a regular
basis, promoting staff wellbeing.
Join us and be part of a new and exciting team dedicated to improving children and young people's health and wellbeing.
About you: - Strong communication skills with children, young people, parents, families, and professionals. - Good ICT skills, including digital recording, communication, and use of online resources. - Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental conditions.
