We’re looking for a Wilder Connections Officer to deliver the volunteer‑powered side of our exciting white stork reintroduction project.
In this role, you’ll spark community involvement, lead energetic volunteer work‑parties, and build the long‑term support networks that help people play an active part in bringing white storks back to our landscapes.
To succeed, you’ll bring enthusiasm for working with volunteers, confidence in reaching new audiences, and the ability to listen deeply and respond to the needs of different groups. Key Responsibilities
1. Community Outreach
* Develop and implement a community outreach strategy to support our species recovery projects, ensuring strong engagement with residents and stakeholders.
* Coordinate events, meetings, and outreach activities with communities to build relationships and encourage support and active participation.
2. Volunteer Co -Ordination
* Use the Team Kinetic volunteer management system to create, promote, and manage new volunteer opportunities, ensuring roles are clearly advertised and accessible.
* Induct, train, and support volunteers so they can confidently deliver engaging activities for societal and biodiversity benefit, including practical work parties.
* Working collaboratively to plan and deliver practical work parties, establishing processes that prioritise equity, inclusion, wellbeing, and health and safety.
3. Project Communications
* Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop a comprehensive project communications plan, ensuring consistent and engaging messaging.
* Maintain and monitor all project communications, working closely with the Marketing team to ensure accuracy, clarity, and timely updates.
* Create and source compelling content – including newsletters, social media posts, and community stories – to assist the Marketing team in communicating project updates and key messages and highlight the project’s progress and impact.
* Maintain regular, proactive communication with local communities and volunteers to keep them informed, involved, and connected to the project.
4. Support species recovery working groups
* Support the wider team in coordinating relevant internal and external species recovery working groups including regional groups, ensuring a landscape approach and effective collaboration across partners and stakeholders.
* Assist with organising and facilitating regular meetings for the working groups, including preparing materials and managing logistics.
* Respond to enquiries from landowners and stakeholders interested in being a part of species recovery programmes and sharing information and invitations.
* Contribute to funding applications that will help sustain and develop the species recovery activities and long‑term impact.
Person Specification
* Essential Skills and Experience
* Experience of stakeholder analysis and community engagement planning.
* Experience of developing and delivering events and activities to a wide range of individuals and groups.
* Confident in coordinating and empowering volunteer teams to deliver impactful, inclusive and safe practical tasks.
* A strong understanding and working practice of inclusion, safeguarding and health & safety.
* Excellent and inspiring communicator with active listening skills.
* Experience developing content for newsletters or social media.
* A full UK driving license or ability to travel between sites in a timely and effective manner.
* Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
