Electrical Assembly & Test Technician – Machinery & Automation Location: Near St Neots, Cambridgeshire Salary: Competitive, depending on experience Our client, a respected UK manufacturer of bespoke process and automation systems, is seeking an experienced Electrical Assembly & Test Technician to join their growing production team near St Neots. This hands-on role involves the build, wiring, and functional testing of complex industrial machinery used across multiple sectors. It’s a great opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of electrical systems and machine wiring who enjoys varied, practical work within a collaborative engineering environment. Key Responsibilities * Wire and connect complete electrical systems across machinery, including sensors, motors, actuators, and control panels. * Carry out functional testing, I/O checks, and fault-finding prior to commissioning. * Verify signal paths and ensure safe operation before software upload or HMI integration. * Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs. * Support factory electrical installations, such as lighting circuits, distribution boards, and equipment upgrades. * Assist with new machine installations and continuous improvement projects. * Work closely with mechanical and controls engineers during machine build and integration. * Maintain high standards of safety, organisation, and electrical workmanship. Skills & Experience Required * Solid experience in machine wiring or industrial electrical assembly. * Confident reading and interpreting electrical drawings and technical documentation. * Hands-on knowledge of control systems, drives, sensors, and motors (including DOL and VFD setups). * Able to identify and resolve electrical issues during build and test phases. * Flexible approach to both workshop and on-site electrical support tasks. * Strong communication and teamwork skills with a proactive, quality-focused attitude. Desirable Qualifications / Experience * 18th Edition or other recognised electrical qualifications. * Previous experience in industrial, commercial, or machinery installations. * Understanding of automation systems, PLCs, HMIs, or drive commissioning tools. * Background in special-purpose machinery, process equipment, or OEM manufacturing environments.
