Job Description:
Salary Range:£1,413 - £5,652 per annum, plus additional incident call out payments
Hours per week:Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
Contract Type:Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds - then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced on the front line, saving lives and protecting communities. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training, and learn emergency skills and personal development.
On-call firefighters come from all community areas, including full/part-time employment, self-employment, studying, or unemployment. They volunteer their time to support the fire and rescue service and protect their communities.
This demanding role offers the chance to make a real contribution, develop close team relationships, and participate in community events. Their duties include fighting fires and handling situations like flooding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience
No prior experience is necessary as comprehensive training is provided. Enthusiasm and meeting essential requirements are key. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly after being alerted, which requires physical fitness.
Note: To apply, you must live or work within 4 minutes of the Fire Station; applications outside this range will be rejected.
