Responsibilities
We are looking to recruit a Category Manager for our curriculum portfolio. The Category Manager will have full responsibility for:
1. Management of the Sport, Music, and Humanities product ranges.
2. The ability to research governmental funding and align a product campaign to requirements is key to the role. Working in advance of curriculum delivery with ranges to ensure we can surface ranges at pivotal key times for customers.
3. Understanding customer requirements, as well as the curriculum needs, to ensure that we source or develop products fitting the requirement.
4. Building key partnerships requirements either at organisational level or with individual consultants/advisors.
5. The ability to review your category and match every product to a curriculum need is key, as well as the ability to identify gaps versus curriculum.
6. Understanding key and niche competitors and their propositions to ensure RMR has the most impactful, curriculum-rich product ranges.
7. Must have the ability to understand customer needs and to either source the need from a third-party supplier or articulate a concept to the NPD team with full commercial viability.
8. Have the product understanding to identify when a product requires additional curricular content enrichment to maximise selling potential.
9. Work globally with the International team to understand their portfolio requirements from a curriculum perspective.
10. Support our commercial teams by articulating our product differentiation to help customers deliver their learning outcomes aligned with teaching methods and ethos across both Primary and Early Years.
11. Ensure communication with Marketing and Digital teams to drive promotional campaign planning with the right proposition depending on customer needs and timings.
12. Develop and maintain strong external relationships with industry experts, educationalists, and nursery care providers to develop insights and knowledge supporting commercial range development and business strategy.
13. Work closely with Procurement to ensure availability, especially on key products and kits.
14. Own concept through to end-of-life product planning, working with Procurement to ensure robust launch, selling, and exit strategies that optimise sales and margin while supporting inventory targets.
Experience
Candidates should have:
1. A full understanding of curriculum requirements, learning outcomes, and governmental guidance to support range development within the education system.
2. An understanding of market lifecycles and peak trading periods, working with teams to meet customer needs and leverage resources to hit revenue targets.
3. Ability to produce and analyse management reports relevant to the division.
4. Experience in developing long-lasting relationships with education experts, advisors, teachers, practitioners, and educationalists.
5. Experience in managing curriculum-related events and exhibitions, demonstrating solutions and learning outcomes, and capturing feedback for NPD.
6. Experience working with NPD teams to develop curriculum-aligned resources for all education levels.
7. Proven ability to develop commercially sound curriculum product ranges, including assortment planning, pricing, positioning, timing, and execution, collaborating with Procurement, Marketing, and Digital teams.
8. Knowledge of government educational policies, funding opportunities, pedagogical practices, and strategic planning for category development.
