Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics ST3

Applications are invited for clinical fellow (middle grade) level jobs in the department of Paediatrics at James Paget University Hospitals NHS trust. These are new posts with a plan to meet the RCPCH standards for Paediatric middle grade rota. Applicants with experience in general paediatrics/Neonates and specialty paediatrics who wish to consolidate or gain experience in general paediatrics are encouraged to apply.
Applicants will be supported in gathering the experience and portfolio evidence needed to support their applications to the GMC for portfolio pathway (previously CESR), or to add to their existing training experience.

Main duties of the job
The department operates a Full Shift rota for the middle grade doctors. Current rota is 1 in 7. The specialty doctor will be doing one weekend in every 7 weeks. They will also be doing a total of 7 nights in a 7-week cycle. This rota will be reviewed following the success of recruitment into the new posts.
The Specialty Doctor will take part in the Middle Grade Rota which is a full shift system. He/she will:
* Be responsible for Paediatric and Neonatal admissions and ward care, as per the duty roster.
* Undertake ward rounds independently but with consultant supervision.
* Attend consultant ward rounds as appropriate.
* Participate in Paediatric clinics.

Job responsibilities
Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service to observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
To observe local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures, and to comply with Regional and Trust Health and Safety policies.
To assume responsibility for and facilitate contact from members of staff with delegated duties for personally accountable patient care.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* MBBS or equivalent
* EPLS
* NLS
* Training in Child Protection
* MRCPCH Part 1
* MRCPCH Part 2
Experience & Knowledge
* At least 3 years’ experience at Specialty Trainee level or higher, with two years’ experience in the specialty.
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty.
* Experience in Acute Paediatrics
* Willingness to extend knowledge by continued education
* Experience in Community Paediatrics
* 6‑12 Months experience in tertiary Neonates
Academic Achievements
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
* Willingness to use evidence base to support decision making
* Familiar with the principles of Risk Management
* Understands principles of Clinical Governance
* Experience in teaching Junior Medical Staff
* Involvement in research projects, audit and published papers
* Formal training in teaching skills
* Experience in teaching Medical Students
