Work and Skills Adviser (Youth Hub)
The Work, Health and Skills Team in Economic Affairs has a vacancy for a Work and Skills Adviser (Youth Hub) to support the work, health, and skills agenda.
This role is crucial in supporting young people to access work experience, volunteering, training, and employment opportunities, especially during these unprecedented times where the co-dependency of work and health is evident.
The position is part of a DWP-funded project, The Youth Hub, building on the success of our single access point and the Facebook group Get Rochdale Working. The successful candidate will guide young people towards education, training, or employment opportunities, offering advice on the most suitable options and understanding the barriers they face.
Responsibilities include managing a caseload of young people, helping them overcome practical and skills barriers, boosting their confidence, and providing specialist information on developing skills for various employment sectors and opportunities.
The role involves engaging with residents via social media, attending events, and understanding the work and skills offerings across Rochdale Borough to direct residents to appropriate support. The team collaborates with various partners, including council staff, police, social housing providers, NHS, public health, social care, and drug and alcohol professionals, to support behavioural change and life improvements. An empathetic approach and ability to identify and nurture potential are essential.
Ideal candidates will have excellent communication, digital, and organizational skills to manage caseloads, meet KPIs, and maintain high support standards, always keeping the young person's goals central and working flexibly.
The team operates borough-wide and at neighborhood levels, coordinating services and embedding them within the wider council and partner offerings. Engagement with businesses ensures young people benefit from available opportunities and support, especially for marginalized communities.
Rochdale Council is a Cooperative Council emphasizing resident involvement and collaborative working for community benefit. This approach is increasingly vital as new partnership opportunities develop to improve residents' lives.
This is a fixed-term contract for approximately 12 months due to additional funding.
Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter demonstrating their experience and suitability for the role, ensuring the cover letter addresses the person specification.
