Shift work: 4 on 4 off days/nights, 12 hour shifts 6am/6pm - 6pm/6am
Although we have a 24/7 shift pattern, there are no Saturday nights on schedule.
Saturday day shift is only 8 hours, giving you more weekend time off compared to a normal 24/7 pattern!
FMCG food manufacturing environment
Duties
Reporting to the Engineering Lead, you will work closely with the Head of Engineering, Factory Manager, and Production Managers to ensure machinery downtime is minimized and preventative maintenance is conducted proactively. You will lead a team of 2 multi-skilled engineers and an apprentice, ensuring safe working conditions and effective team management.
* Work as part of a small, multidisciplinary engineering team
* Attend to breakdowns promptly and follow escalation procedures
* Manage shift cover, holidays, overtime, and return-to-work documentation
* Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
* Implement repairs and record measures to identify recurrent faults
* Liaise with the Engineering Lead, Senior Engineer, and parts manager for parts supply
* Reduce downtime by identifying repeat issues and developing new PPM strategies
* Monitor and report on KPIs such as OEE, MTTR, and MTBF
* Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies
* Champion H&S and building maintenance initiatives
* Mentor and coach engineers to ensure quality service
* Contribute to process improvements and best practices
Requirements
* Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, ideally with experience on food processing machinery
* Process control expertise
* Commitment to ongoing skills development
* Competence in building electrical control systems from switchgear to software
* Engineering apprenticeship and relevant qualifications (e.g., BTEC ONC, HNC, HND in Electrical Engineering) are essential
* Possession of IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations is advantageous
* Proven experience in an engineering fault-finding role within FMCG or food manufacturing
* Understanding of HACCP, COSHH, and GMP principles
* Excellent communication, assertiveness, decision-making skills, and a positive attitude
* Experience with Root Cause Analysis and implementing countermeasures
* Multiskilled in electrical and mechanical engineering
* Knowledge of CMMS systems like Shires is advantageous
* Ability to deploy and manage preventative maintenance strategies
* Solution-oriented, innovative, and pragmatic approach
* Passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and safety audits
