Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and experienced pharmacy professional to join Frimley Health Foundation NHS Trust as a Band 7 Dispensary Manager. In this leadership role, you will manage and develop the dispensary service, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient pharmaceutical practice. You will lead a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff to deliver high-quality patient care within a busy hospital setting. This role requires strong organisational skills, expertise in dispensary operations, and experience working with Electronic Patient Record systems, particularly EPIC. Main duties of the job Manage day-to-day operations of the dispensary, ensuring timely and accurate dispensing of medications. Lead, develop, and support dispensary staff, overseeing recruitment, appraisal, training, and retention. Maintain compliance with statutory, regulatory, and professional standards including CQC, RPS, and NHS requirements. Oversee stock control, wastage reduction, and efficient use of dispensary resources including robotic dispensing systems. Use EPIC and other IT systems for inventory and dispensing management. Investigate and respond to complaints and dispensing errors, promoting a culture of patient safety. Support clinical trials, chemotherapy services, and pharmacy service improvements. Frimley Health Trust benefits on Vimeo Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The Band 7 Dispensary Manager will be responsible for managing and developing the dispensary service to maximise safe, effective, and economical practice in conjunction with the senior pharmacy team. You will act as a role model and provide leadership to all technical and support staff within the dispensary. Key responsibilities include planning and managing the delivery of a high-quality dispensary service; supervising pharmacists and technical staff regarding workflow; supporting recruitment, retention, and staff development; accuracy checking and dispensing medication; counselling patients; and maintaining full and accurate dispensing records. You will investigate complaints and dispensing errors, monitor error logs, and implement corrective actions. Managing staff absence, grievances, disciplinary matters, and rotas will also form part of your role. You will ensure ongoing training and competency assessments for dispensary staff, manage stock and wastage, maintain departmental policies, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and Trust procedures. Additional duties include supporting clinical trials and chemotherapy teams, managing robotic systems, ensuring accurate temperature monitoring, holding regular staff meetings, participating in ward technician rotations, and representing the dispensary at relevant meetings. Lead and manage the dispensary team, ensuring safe and effective service delivery. Oversee recruitment, appraisal, and professional development of dispensary staff. Ensure compliance with legal, professional, and Trust standards and procedures. Manage stock control, minimise wastage, and maintain formulary adherence. Investigate and manage dispensing errors and complaints promptly. Use EPIC EPR system to manage inventory and dispensing processes accurately. Facilitate communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Support clinical pharmacy services, including clinical trials and chemotherapy. Maintain professional registration and engage in continuous professional development. Participate in rota work including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Pharmacy Technician GPhC registered at Level 3 ACPT Leadership or management qualification Desirable criteria Leadership or management qualification/training. Accredited Medicines Optimisation Experience working with Epic electronic patient record and Willow dispensing and inventory system. Experience Essential criteria Staff management & leadership Dealing with conflict resolution Supervisory experience Significant post qualification hospital pharmacy experience Desirable criteria Project Management experience Experience in developing Pharmacy services Skills & Knowledge Essential criteria Good understanding of NHS Pharmacy Able to produce reports and other materials using Microsoft Office Applications Evidence of leadership skills Desirable criteria Clear ideas on how their practice contribute to patient care Experience of using the Epic system Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) has an outstanding reputation and a proud record of achievement.
