Job overview

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit has one current vacancy for a Clinical Educator and is seeking a high performing Nurse to join our dynamic, innovative and rapidly expanding team.

Our until has 12 Cardiac Intensive Care beds, providing top quality, modern facilitators for the management of cardiac and thoracic surgery.

You will be supporting the Band 7 Clinical Educator, Senior Sisters and Matron to empower the team to maintain the delivery of patient focused, compassionate care providing advice and training solutions which meet organisational, professional, and individual developing needs.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the continued development of evidence based critical care nursing practice within CICU.

They will use their expertise to provide support and act as a resource for senior and junior staff and members of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a commitment to Critical Care Nursing and unit philosophy through a framework of Clinical Governance.

In addition, you will be expected to take on the role and responsibilities of a Sister / Charge Nurse and will regularly co-ordinate the unit.

Your role will involve the facilitation of training, education and ongoing professional and practice development, enabling staff to develop the clinical skills and competencies required delivering a high quality service, responsive to changing need.

Person specification


Education and Qualifications

* RGN Level one NMC
* First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes) and a commitment to complete PGCE
* To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998


Experience

* Extensive relevant experience at AFC Band 5 / 6 in a cardiac critical care setting
* Ward / Unit level managerial experience – co-ordinator role
* Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
* Completion of recognised accredited ICU course modules
* Completion of Step 1, 2 & 3 critical care competencies or equivalent
* Completion of CICU management competencies
* Completed NMC recognised mentor qualification, or plan for undertaking qualification discussed / confirmed at appraisal


Skills and Knowledge

* Evidence of relevant post basic training and continuous professional development
* Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis, with groups, and the Multidisciplinary Team
* Good understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS
* Excellent performance management skills.
* Highly developed leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills – ability to form positive relationships at all levels.
* Clinical expert
* Motivated, innovative, receptive to change
* Ability to work flexibly to cover the needs of the services.
* Evidence of high-level commitment to professional development, training and education
* Good understanding of information technology/ data bases.
* Experience in developing and use of integrated care pathways
