Description
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in maintaining accurate commercial and cost information across our contracts. Working under supervision, you will assist with inputting and analysing cost and project data, supporting the compilation of Management Information and Reports, and contributing to the weekly financial performance updates. You will gain hands‑on experience in reviewing and processing subcontractor applications and learning how commercial decisions support successful project delivery.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a 5‑year part‑time Quantity Surveying degree, fully funded by Network Plus. Alongside this, you will receive structured support toward achieving your Professional Chartership (e.g., RICS or equivalent) when eligible and enrolled in our internal 5 year, structured, professional development plan to aid your learning curve.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for someone to:
* Report in to the Group Central Head of Commercial; you will commence an 18-month project and department rotation plan to attain a comprehensive understanding of our business. Whilst on this rotation, you will work towards a comprehensive list of competency and experience achievements. When eventually allocated to long term projects you will:
* Assist in monitoring works activities carried out against pre‑determined schedules, quantities, and costs.
* Monitor the staff, labour and plant hire rates utilised on the contract, supporting the compilation and preparation of monthly cost allocation reports.
* Supporting the procurement process for subcontractors, including onboarding them, organising documentation and maintaining trackers.
* Assisting in the preparation and internal governance of subcontractor payment applications.
* Helping to prepare subcontract task orders in accordance with the main contract.
* Attending operational and subcontractor meetings to observe, learn, and assist in monitoring subcontractor performance.
* Supporting the team in preparing client and subcontractor final accounts.
* Assisting with updates to the Risk Register and Change Register
* Supporting the monitoring of internal expenditure against Budget/Cost Plans and developing efficient reporting techniques.
* Learning how to analyse commercial information and produce high‑quality commercial updates and reports.
Experience and Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
* A strong interest in construction, commercial management, or quantity surveying.
* A minimum of Level 3 qualifications (A‑Levels, BTEC or equivalent) that meet entry requirements for the part‑time Quantity Surveying degree.
* Good communication, negotiation and influencing skills, or the enthusiasm to develop them over time.
* Proficient IT skills or the willingness to learn (Excel and Word essential).
* A full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one.
* A proactive attitude and strong commercial awareness, with the desire to build this through training and experience.
