The Care Coordinator for Research and Engagement will play a key role in supporting the delivery of clinical research across primary care, with a particular focus on improving access and participation among underserved communities. This new role is funded by the Research Delivery Network for 23 months for 18.75 hours per week.
The postholder will coordinate patient-facing research activity, support community engagement initiatives, and help remove barriers to participation in clinical trials. The role will involve building trusted relationships within diverse communities, supporting culturally appropriate communication, and ensuring research opportunities are communicated clearly and inclusively.
Although some remote working may be possible depending on the task, the role requires a consistent onsite presence at practice locations and applicants must reside in Liverpool or the near vicinity. As the first point of contact for research-related queries, the Care Coordinator will ensure patients are supported throughout their research journey, from initial engagement to follow up, helping to make research more accessible, equitable, and reflective of the population served.
Main duties of the job
* Proactively identify and contact eligible patients to discuss participation in current clinical research studies.
* Use culturally sensitive communication to build trust and overcome barriers to research participation among underserved groups.
* Provide clear, accessible information about research studies, ensuring patients understand purpose, risks, and benefits.
* Support patients through the recruitment process, assisting with consent procedures (where appropriate within scope).
* Develop and maintain links with community organisations, faith groups, cultural associations, and local advocates.
* Organise and deliver outreach events, information sessions, and Q&A opportunities to raise awareness of research.
* Gather insight from community members to identify barriers to participation and co‑create strategies to address them.
* Work closely with the Research Nurse and wider clinical research team to ensure smooth running of recruitment workflows.
* Maintain accurate records of patient contacts, eligibility checks, and study activity in research databases.
* Assist with scheduling research appointments, sending reminders, and ensuring follow‑up requirements are met.
* Support data collection tasks within defined competencies.
* Promote inclusion by tailoring engagement materials for different cultural and language needs.
