Plessey has a long history of innovation. Founded in 1956, we have evolved from one of Europe’s earliest semiconductor pioneers into the world’s most advanced microLED specialist. Over the decades, Plessey has built a first class, fully integrated platform designing, manufacturing, and engineering next-generation display technologies entirely in-house. This end-to-end capability, combined with our strong IP portfolio, uniquely positions us to lead the scaling of MicroLED’s from lab innovation to high-volume production.
Our future is even brighter. We believe MicroLED’s will define the next era of technology—powering ultra-efficient AR/VR displays, driving optical processors that make AI faster and more sustainable, and enabling devices yet to be imagined. With our unique expertise and talented team, we are positioned to lead this transformation.
It’s an exciting time to join us: Plessey has recently been acquired by Haylo Labs, accelerating our growth and opening new opportunities.

About the Role
We are looking for a senior Software Engineer to support the development of automated reliability and characterisation test systems for MicroLED devices. The role combines test software development, instrument control, and data analysis, supporting both the execution of reliability campaigns and the analysis of device performance and degradation. The engineer will work closely with hardware engineers and test engineers to develop software tools that control laboratory equipment, automate test procedures, and analyse large datasets generated during device testing.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain automated test software for reliability and characterisation systems.
* Interface with laboratory instruments and test hardware using LabVIEW, C++, and Python.
* Support the execution of device reliability campaigns and engineering experiments.
* Develop tools for data collection, processing, and analysis.
* Work with engineering teams to interpret results and identify device behaviour trends.
* Contribute to improving the automation and robustness of internal test platforms.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Master’s degree in Physics, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Proficiency in LabVIEW and C++.
* Working knowledge of Python for data processing and analysis.
* Hands-on experience with communication protocols such as SPI and I²C.
* Experience working with laboratory bench instruments such as power supply units (PSUs), oscilloscopes, pattern generators and multimeters.
* Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Advantage
* Experience with NI TestStand for automated test environments.
* Background or practical experience in semiconductor device testing.
* Experience analysing large datasets and developing mathematical models for device behaviour and degradation.
* Familiarity with reliability testing methodologies (e.g., lifetime or stress testing).
