Join to apply for the Charge Nurse/Ward Sister role at Transskribo
The Older Peoples Inpatient Service at The Mount has a fabulous opportunity to join our inpatient dementia team. We welcome experienced nurses who are passionate about older adult care and making a difference in people’s lives. You will want to develop as a charge nurse/sister with an enthusiasm for service development and leadership, and be naturally motivated, caring, compassionate and proud to work with older adults living with dementia.
The Mount has four wards (two dementia assessment, two functional mental health), dedicated to safe and effective care for the older adult population of Leeds. We currently have a vacancy on our female dementia ward.
On the ward you would join a multi-disciplinary team in providing high standards of care to service users and working closely with carers/families. This role offers the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and gain experience in operational leadership. We provide comprehensive on-going support and professional development including appraisals, personal development plans, short term and long term study opportunities, and a robust clinical supervision structure.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds, with specialist inpatient services in York and other sites. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.
There are many benefits of working for LYPFT including wellbeing support, 27–33 days annual leave, flexible and remote working arrangements, the NHS Pension Scheme, coaching and career development opportunities, and education support, along with a range of exclusive discounts.
Applicants should be aware that the Trust provides visa sponsorship only for registered healthcare practitioner roles (not for Healthcare Support Workers). This is an essential requirement, and the Trust cannot offer a role if you do not meet sponsorship and Home Office visa requirements.
The Older Peoples Inpatient Service provides inpatient care, assessment and treatment to service users living with dementia and to service users with functional mental health needs such as depression or psychosis. We aim to provide effective person-centered care with individualized care plans that aid in recovery and promote wellbeing, working in partnership with service users to maintain skills and coping strategies.
You will provide strong leadership to your team on a day-to-day basis, including monthly supervision and annual appraisal, and will support patient flow to ensure effective care and timely discharges from the ward.
As Charge Nurse, you will assist the Ward Manager in duties related to the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of care programmes, and the setting and modelling of standards of care across the teams. You will lead designated areas of practice, work with the Service Matron and Ward Manager to develop an action plan, identify training needs, and consider audit requirements related to areas such as medicines management, purposeful admission, and educational leadership. You will also contribute to project work to achieve high standards of clinical care (e.g., Dementia Care Mapping and best practice in dementia care; promoting wrap or recovery-focused models of care).
Minimum requirements: Experienced nurse with a passion for care of older adults with dementia; leadership and service development mindset; ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team; commitment to professional development and clinical governance.
