Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Main Contractor Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum (Depending on Experience) Location: Eastleigh / Southampton Borders Contract: Permanent Atkinson Baker Associates are currently recruiting a driven and commercially astute Assistant Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a highly respected and growing Regional Main Contractor. The Client Our client is a dynamic, fast-growing construction business with a fantastic reputation across the South Coast. They deliver a diverse portfolio of high-quality schemes spanning both traditional builds and complex Design & Build (D&B) projects. Known for their collaborative team culture and excellent training structures, they offer the perfect environment for an ambitious Assistant QS to rapidly develop their commercial career and step up to Intermediate level. The Role Working closely alongside a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be heavily involved in the commercial lifecycle of varying construction projects. The client needs someone who already has a firm grasp of pre-contract duties but is eager to gain deeper exposure to the post-contract phases. Your duties will include: Pre-Contract Support: Assisting with the preparation of tender documents, taking-off quantities, and estimating costs. Contract Administration: Working regularly with both traditional JCT and Design & Build (D&B) contracts, ensuring commercial compliance and risk mitigation. Sub-Contractor Management: Assisting with the procurement of sub-contractors, managing sub-contractor accounts, and preparing payment certificates. Post-Contract Exposure: Gradually taking on more post-contract responsibilities, including assisting with variations, valuations, and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs). Cost Reporting: Helping the senior commercial team prepare accurate cash flow forecasts and final accounts. Requirements Essential: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as an Assistant or Trainee QS, specifically within a Main Contracting environment. Essential: A solid working understanding of both Design & Build (D&B) and traditional JCT contracts. Essential: Strong pre-contract experience, with a genuine desire (or existing exposure) to learn and take on post-contract duties. Essential: Degree qualified (or working towards a BSc/HNC) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management. Location: Must be based within a commutable distance of the Southampton / Eastleigh area.
