This Fractional Financial Controller job in Galashiels is an excellent opportunity to join a leading employer in the Scottish Borders, in a value-add role. The organisation is going through an exciting period of change and as a result of a slight re-structure in the team, there now exists the opportunity to join the organisation on a fractional, job-share basis.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will manage the organisation's finance and procurements functions on a day to day basis. This will include management and statutory reporting, budgetary control and ongoing support to the Director of Finance. Specific duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Assume responsibility for leading the month-end and year-end planning and and closure process to enable the reporting of management accounts. This will include preparing periodic returns and annual statutory accounts
* Partner with teams in the production of annual budgets, forecasts and re-forecasts; influencing a wide and varied senior stakeholder base
* Take the lead on the development and improvement of systems, processes and procedures
* Act as an advisor to the DoF, playing a key and active part in organisation-wide strategy and planning
* Report on financial performance to the Senior Leadership Team
To be successful, it is envisaged that you will be a fully qualified accountant (CA/ACA/ACCA/ACMA/GCMA) with relevant post-qualifying experience gained in a large and complex organisation. Experience of working in education and/or a large public sector/not-for-profit organisation such as a University, Local Authority, Health Board or charity would be particularly attractive. As well as strong technical skills, you will be well versed in supporting non-finance personnel understand key financial information and help them make better commercial decisions based on your financial insight and analysis. Strong IT skills are taken as a given and ideally, you will have an eye for improving systems, processes and procedures to simplify and enhance the reporting process.
This role is offered on a fractional basis of 17.5 hours per week. Hours and days of work are flexible, though it would be very useful if you could be in the office, at least part of the time, on 1-2 days per week. In addition to a competitive basic salary, the organisation also offers a defined benefit pension scheme (with a typical contribution of around 17%) and 45 days holidays per annum (pro-rata).
