We are recruiting for an Associate Transfusion Practitioner who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
Blood Transfusion is highly regulated to ensure patient safety and that all blood products are used according to national regulations. The transfusion practitioner team acts as an interface between the laboratory and clinical staff at all levels to ensure processes are followed and that the clinical areas are aware of the requirements to ensure safe transfusions.
Role Overview
The post holder will work alongside the transfusion practitioners as part of the Hospital Transfusion Team to support the Trust in keeping patients safe and ensuring that regulations and guidelines are followed. The work is varied and requires a flexible approach and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Transfusion Practitioners in facilitating safe practice in blood transfusion, preventing blood wastage and auditing blood transfusion processes within the Trust.
* Support the laboratory with full traceability of all blood products coming into the department.
* Assist in the delivery of transfusion training and competency assessments, and in the development of guidelines and policies.
* Support the Transfusion Practitioners in investigating and documenting transfusion incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions, and in ongoing external reporting.
