An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time (15 hours a week) Youth Club Manager to help deliver a variety of fun and engaging activities for young people aged 7-18 years in the Renegades Youth Club. Renegades is an exciting and unusual youth group charity based in the villages around Billingshurst, West Sussex.
Our ambition is to set fire to the children's creative minds and their imaginations. We want to take them to places and do activities with them that they will remember for the rest of their lives. The purpose of the club is to help develop the children through providing information and education in a fun way, through leisure opportunities and by actively involving the members in the running of the club, their community and wider society. With our own minibus, we are also working hard to counter rural isolation for children who can't easily access transport.
We are looking for an individual with experience and knowledge of working with young people who can commit to working during the core hours.
What we are looking for:
· We are looking for a highly motivated and energetic individual with the experience of working with young people and the confidence to guide small groups in activities.
· You will be working directly with young people, supporting their personal development by providing appropriate programmes of activities.
· To actively participate in the programme planning ensuring a varied and interesting range of activities for young people.
· Fully DBS checked, you will have the knowledge of, and experience in, safeguarding young people.
· Monitor, evaluate and report back to board of Trustees on a regular basis.
· To work with young people to remove barriers in accessing youth provision and facilitate the inclusion of all young people in activities taking account of their individual needs and cultures.
· You should be able to use your own initiative to get tasks done and strive at all times to be a positive role-model to each individual.
· You should have a strong commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives, including the problems of rural isolation.
· You are an individual with the ability to provide reliable support to young people and act with integrity in times of stress.
· You have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with young people.
· You have patience, tolerance and flexibility.
· You have a sense of adventure and a willingness to try new things.
· You have good communication skills for presentations and report writing.
· You can treat young people's concerns with respect, tact and sensitivity, while being aware of the limits that are required by confidentiality and the boundaries that govern the youth/youth worker relationship.
· You have a great deal of resilience
Duties & Responsibilities
· Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver programmes of activities.
· To develop an annual calendar of activities.
· Provide written risk assessments on all activities.
· Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, canoeing, drone flying, archery, bushcraft and Go-karting.
· Awareness of how to identify and manage autism, ADHD and other common conditions.
· Regularly monitor and review the quality of the local youth work provision.
· Devise and run arts-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education and sporting activities.
· Support young people in different settings, including outreach work.
· Mentor, coach and support individuals, encouraging greater social inclusion.
· To assist the Group Leader and trustees to in work in partnership with professionals from other organisations that support young people such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities.
· Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and local policy developments. To specifically participate in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training.
· To assist in working with parents and community groups to gain support for improved provision and act as an advocate for young people's interests.
· To support fundraising activity through the supply of information and materials.
· To assess need for training (as required) for all volunteers.
· To develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan.
· To assist in the development and implementation of a membership recruitment strategy.
· To assist in the development and implementation of a membership retention plan.
· To input to the development and implementation of a volunteers' induction programme, including a Renegades induction handbook.
Requirements
· Experience of working with and engaging young people in youth work activities.
· Awareness of vulnerable groups and the challenges of working with children.
· To hold a current enhanced DBS or willing to allow one to be taken.
Working Hours and Salary
The role is 15 hours per week, with Monday, Wednesday and Friday 15: being core hours. Salary £14,599.60 per annum for an initial one-year contract, with the possibility of an extension.
