Job overview

To provide support and assist the division in matters of budgetary and general financial control so that Budget Managers and Business Partners can exercise their discretion, initiative and responsibility for planning and managing their budgets. To assist the Business Partner in completing the month-end cycle, assist with the production of timely and accurate monthly budget reports, forecasts and variance analysis in line with department deadlines. Assist in the identification and investigation of any variances in expenditure from budget and report on findings or conclusions to the Finance Business Partner. Provide advice and support to budget managers concerning their financial reports, and establish good relationships with the Divisions, Departments and other NHS bodies. Contribute to streamlining processes and share best practice with the team. Staff will be actively encouraged to gain qualifications (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, AAT, NVQs) and provision made as widely as possible for personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

1. Assisting the Finance Business Partner and Senior Management Accountants with the setting and maintenance of budgets for several directorates within the trust. Liaising with budget managers to produce annual budgets and regular amendments.
2. To assist with working on the month-end process and work to tight deadlines for the purpose of calculating accruals, prepayments, budget movements and adjustments to the General Ledger. Understand the Trust’s sub-ledgers, such as the sales ledger and purchase ledger, and be able to extract relevant financial information from these ledgers for the purposes of completing month-end and interrogating information to formulate variance analysis and explanations.
3. Assisting with the day-to-day financial operations of the post holder’s local area of responsibility.
4. Assist in providing routine analysis investigation and provide explanations of variances to aid in the understanding of the financial position.
