Scientific prizes are powerful catalysts for innovation, shaping the trajectories of individual careers and accelerating the progress of science. Their impact has become a central focus in computational social science and the science of science research. This post offers an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to this rapidly evolving field of study.
The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Ching Jin at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM), University of Warwick, and collaborate with leading scientists from Cornell University, Northwestern University, Southern University of Science and Technology, computer scientists from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and economists from Queen Mary University of London. The role includes opportunities for conference travel and international research collaboration.
This post is offered as a:
* Full-time (36.5 hours) for 12 months, start date to be negotiated.
* OR
* Part-time (18.25 hours) finishing 30/04/2027, to start as soon as possible.
About You
We are seeking a talented researcher to join an exciting new project investigating the role of scientific prizes in advancing research. The successful candidate will leverage large-scale, high-resolution datasets to analyze how prizes influence scientific breakthroughs, career trajectories, and broader research ecosystems. Key research themes include:
* Mapping the complex structure of scientific award systems
* Measuring the impact of prizes on individual researchers and scientific progress
* Examining equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in prize allocation
* Exploring the interplay between prizes and research funding systems
