About the role: Vocational Trainer in Performing & Production Arts

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Vocational Trainer in Performing & Production Arts within the Createch Faculty, based at Reading College.

Createch is where creativity meets technology, bringing together creative skills and emerging technologies. This is a unique opportunity to work across Performing and Production Arts with students studying UAL qualifications. This role’s primary focus will be on our UAL Level 1, 2 and L3 Awards and Diplomas in Performing and Production Arts covering the backstage elements for our Performing Arts students, many of whom go on to follow a Performance and Production pathway.

As a Vocational Trainer, you will play a vital role in guiding students as they develop a wide range of practical and technical skills for careers in Technical and Production Arts (e.g. Set Design, Prop Making, Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Event Planning). You will also be responsible for maintaining safe and inspiring learning environments, including the theatre, and supporting students as they explore interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of live and recorded performance events. Reading College Performing Arts staff and students work closely with Reading Rep Theatre, who are located within the campus.

This role includes delivering lessons, supervising practical workshops, and supporting students as they develop their practical skills. You will work closely with teaching staff to plan projects, contribute to the design of schemes of learning, and provide students with constructive feedback to help them progress.

This is a permanent, part-time position based at Reading College. The role is for 2.5 days per week and currently has timetabled sessions planned for Wednesdays and Thursdays.

What do you need to be a successful Vocational Trainer in Performing & Production Arts?

Successful candidates will have an appropriate professional qualification and/or a degree in a relevant field, such as Performing Arts or Production and Technical disciplines such as lighting, media and live sound engineering. Experience of using both lighting and sound equipment and being able to demonstrate and guide our learners through processes that develop skills in these disciplines is essential. Knowledge of UAL qualifications is desirable but not essential. While we welcome applications from those without formal teaching qualifications, you should be able to inspire learners and be committed to developing your teaching practice.
