What is a Gas & Mechanical Engineer?
A Gas & Mechanical Engineer performs assignments related to the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and compliance of our natural gas systems with required codes and standards, innovation and modernization at the forefront.
What does a Gas & Mechanical Engineer do?
8. Manages capital construction projects and programs
9. Develops gas system modernization plans and automation schemes
10. Enhances and automates natural gas safety and compliance processes
11. Analyzes and optimizes inspection and maintenance of the gas transmission and distribution system
12. Oversees research and development projects to improve the efficiency and environmental footprint of the natural gas system
13. Develops and updates gas construction standards, pipe joining manuals, operations and maintenance procedures
14. Designs and troubleshoots natural gas pipeline corrosion prevention systems
15. Performs gas system simulations and models and developing solutions to enhance operations
16. Designs and manages construction of gas regulator stations and transmission facilities
17. Interfaces with Department of Public Service Staff regarding Central Hudson’s gas system activities
18. Provides support for storm or gas emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Gas & Mechanical Engineer?
Required:
19. Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering
20. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
21. Must be available to respond to gas and electric emergencies outside of normal business hours as required
22. Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind
23. Dedication to continuous improvement and initiative to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
24. Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment
25. Well-developed written/verbal communication skills
26. Excellent problem-solving skills, with innovation in mind
27. Strong analytical, organizational and quantitative skills
28. Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
29. Experience working in the regulated utility industry
