Buckhurst Plant Hire is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their busy Aberdeen depot. About Buckhurst Plant Hire Buckhurst Plant Hire was established in 1993 by the Walsh family. From our humble beginnings in a small yard with only a handful of machines, the company has grown phenomenally in size since then. Buckhurst, with an annual turnover of £15 million, is now operating from several depots across the UK with over 3000 pieces of machinery and plant. Buckhurst now employs over 120 dedicated people across our depots and field-based roles, while working hard to retain that small business family feel from the early ’90s. Everyone has an important role to play within this family-run business, whereby you’re not just a number and you’re expected to roll your sleeves up and “muck in," so to speak, so you may need a pair of wellies in our plant yards. Role: Business Development Manager (Aberdeen) Reports to: Sales Director Job Purpose We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Manager (BDM) to drive revenue growth in the Aberdeen region and support the wider business. Reporting to the Sales Director, the BDM will play a key role in delivering the sales strategy, aligning closely with the Aberdeen depot to ensure service excellence and customer satisfaction. This is a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and results-driven individual to retain and grow a portfolio of regional and national spending customers, contributing significantly to the company’s success. Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Revenue Growth: Develop and execute a strategic sales approach to drive revenue growth across the Aberdeen region, aligned with the broader sales strategy. Identify new business opportunities and convert them into profitable, long-term customer relationships. Customer Portfolio Management Retain and grow an assigned portfolio of customers, comprising both regional and national accounts. Build strong, lasting relationships with key decision-makers, ensuring a deep understanding of customer needs and expectations. Proactively manage contract renewals, upselling additional services and solutions to maximise revenue. On-Site Client Engagement Schedule and conduct regular on-site visits with customers to strengthen relationships, address issues, and provide tailored solutions. Lead discussions with clients to review performance, understand their current and future needs, and identify upselling or cross-selling opportunities. Deliver presentations or demonstrations to showcase the company’s products, services, or innovations that align with the customer’s objectives. Collaboration With Depots Work closely with the Aberdeen depot to ensure seamless alignment in delivering service excellence to customers. Collaborate with operational teams to ensure all activities support customer satisfaction and the overall sales strategy. Act as the bridge between sales and operations, ensuring the whole team is focused on delivering the best outcomes for customers. Market Intelligence And Reporting Stay informed about market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments within the region. Provide regular updates and insights to the Sales Director, contributing to the refinement of the sales strategy. Team Alignment And Contributions Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration, ensuring alignment of objectives across departments. Share best practices and contribute to the overall growth and success of the wider sales team. Skills And Qualifications Essential Proven track record in a business development or sales role, ideally within a regional or national context Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to implement sales plans that deliver measurable results Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. Demonstrated experience in managing and growing customer portfolios, including contract negotiation and upselling. Proficiency in the use of a CRM system, with the ability to utilise it effectively for tracking sales activity, managing customer relationships, and generating reports. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure service excellence. Strong commercial awareness and understanding of market dynamics.
