We are looking to recruit Autism Domiciliary Support Workers x 4 to work in the Tyneside area.
Our client provides Independent Supported Living Services to people on the autism spectrum and who have complex needs.
About the Role
As a Support Worker at ESPA, you'll be part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality, autism-specific care and support. What You'll Be Doing
Supporting Daily Life
* Provide person-centred support with daily activities including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks—always maintaining dignity and respect
* Implement individualised care plans that respond to communication needs, social skills development, and behavioural support strategies
* Create and maintain safe, structured living environments that support each person's specific needs
* Monitor wellbeing and health, administering medication when trained and competent to do so
Enabling Independence & Growth
* Support individuals to develop life skills, build confidence, and work toward personal goals
* Facilitate community access, recreational activities, social connections, and educational opportunities
* Act as key worker for specific individuals, coordinating their support and contributing to reviews
* Implement positive behaviour support strategies with consistency and compassion
Documentation & Communication
* Maintain accurate records of care delivery, observations, and individual progress
* Build positive relationships with families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies
* Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns immediately through proper channels
* Participate in team meetings, handovers, and service development discussions
Team Leadership (as required)
* Take shift leader responsibilities when needed, coordinating the team and managing service delivery
* Support and mentor new staff members, sharing autism-specific knowledge and best practices
* Maintain service standards by ensuring health and safety compliance and environmental quality
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
* Genuine passion for supporting people with autism and commitment to making a positive difference
* Experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs (paid or voluntary)
* Strong communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships with individuals, families, and colleagues
* Compassionate, patient approach with ability to remain calm under pressure
* Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in/night duties
* Commitment to following safeguarding procedures and ESPA's Code of Conduct
* Willingness to complete Care Certificate and ongoing training
* Enhanced DBS check (we can support you through this process)
Desirable but Not Essential
* Previous experience in residential care or supported living environments
* Relevant qualifications (Care Certificate, NVQ/QCF Level 2-3, or Social Care Diploma)
* Understanding of positive behaviour support approaches
* Full UK driving licence (helpful for community access activities)
