Role Overview:
The Infrastructure Build Lead is a senior technical role responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of infrastructure build activities across projects. This role ensures that technical standards are upheld, processes are followed, and quality is assured. The Build Lead will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), provide line management to infrastructure engineers, allocate tasks effectively, and work closely with Project Managers to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & SME Duties
* Serve as the technical authority for infrastructure build activities.
* Provide expert guidance on infrastructure design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
* Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
Quality Assurance & Peer Review
* Conduct peer reviews of infrastructure build work to ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
* Assure the quality and consistency of deliverables across the team.
* Enforce compliance with documented processes and procedures.
Team Management & Task Allocation
* Line manage a team of infrastructure engineers, including performance reviews and development planning.
* Allocate tasks based on skill sets, project priorities, and resource availability.
* Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Project Delivery Support
* Collaborate with Project Managers to define scope, timelines, and resource needs.
* Monitor progress against project milestones and proactively address risks or delays.
* Ensure infrastructure build activities are delivered on time and within budget.
Process & Standards Compliance
* Champion the use of standardized processes and tools across the infrastructure team.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to implement changes.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in infrastructure build and deployment in complex and often isolated environments.
* Strong understanding of networking, server, storage, private cloud, and virtualization technologies.
* Experience in line management and team leadership.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong organizational and task prioritization abilities.
* Familiarity with ITIL, Agile, or other relevant frameworks is a plus.
* Knowledge of hardening techniques and standards (STIGs, CIS).
Desirable Qualifications:
* Certifications such as MCSE, VMware VCP, CCNA/E.
* Experience working in regulated or enterprise-scale environments.
* Knowledge of automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).
