Hours: 36 hours per week
Rate: £22.22 per hour (Umbrella) / £17.77 per hour (PAYE, exclusive)
Location: Hybrid (office, home visits & community-based work)
The Role
A North London Local Authority is seeking an experienced SEND Broker to join their Procurement and Commissioning Hub on an interim basis.
This is a key role supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by coordinating and managing travel assistance arrangements. You will ensure transport solutions are safe, appropriate, and tailored to individual needs, while working closely with families, schools, and transport providers.
You’ll play a vital part in ensuring young people can access education safely and reliably, while maintaining compliance with statutory guidance and delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
Assess travel assistance needs for children and young people with SEND
Process applications in line with Home to School/College Transport Policy
Conduct home visits and complete detailed needs and risk assessments
Manage and monitor a personal caseload to meet service targets
Liaise with parents/carers, schools, social workers and transport providers
Support SEND travel panel processes, including agenda preparation and minute-taking
Resolve issues, complaints and incidents through investigation and mediation
Maintain accurate records and contribute to audits and reporting
Identify opportunities for cost savings and support budget monitoring
Promote independence, including identifying candidates for travel training programmesAbout You
You will have:
Experience working in education, health or social care, ideally with SEND
Strong understanding of SEND and home to school transport processes
Experience conducting home visits and assessments
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively
Confidence working collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners
Strong report writing and administrative skills
A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approachDesirable:
