Purpose Do you want to be part of a successful and innovative skills team? You will be required to deliver the vocational employability training element of Severnside Skills across the portfolio of courses, provide specialist skill training to support the high-quality vocational courses being delivered as part of Severnside Skills and to maintain a consistent delivery of teaching to trainees. Location & Travel Community-based This role will be based at Taurus Crafts in Lydney. Duties & Responsibilities Main responsibilities: Empower Severnside Skills trainees as individuals to live lives of opportunity to achieve their aspirations. Communicate with family members of trainees and/ or their support team to help support with any difficulties or concerns. Develop an understanding of each of the trainee’s communication needs and styles, in order to facilitate effective communication, enabling the individual to make their own informed choices, communicate their own wishes and be “listened to” whatever their means of communication. Plan and deliver sessions to enable trainees to be involved in all aspects of the vocational subject area to equip individuals for future roles in the wider workplace. Sessions to prioritise person-centred learning, development and progression. Develop schemes of work, workbooks, resources and other materials to support unit outcomes in an accessible format. Ensure sessions are structured so training can realistically be completed within time scales and other tasks, such as ordering of stock or cleaning to the required standard can be achieved within set hours. Coordinate and feedback at regular review meetings and vocational evaluations to discuss any challenges and review progression. Ensure weekly records are complete and update observation and evidence-based records, raising any concerns that may arise. Ensure that all relevant Severnside Skills documentation is completed and filed at the relevant intervals during the placement. Ensure all records are updated and maintained accurately in line with confidentiality and data protection policies, legal and contractual requirements and service level arrangements. Report any safety events, safeguarding concerns or other significant issues through appropriate channels as outlined in the relevant policy and procedure. Support the Vocational Learning & Development Manager in communications with social workers, local authority commissioners, carers or family members around course information to secure funding for trainee placements. Facilitate the induction process for new trainees, including the development of Individual Learning Plans and other supporting documents. Evidence of regular communication; daily checking of emails and phone messages. Follow finance processes for ordering and payment of goods within the expected timescales and budget, and ensure stock and costs are properly managed. Ensure the Severnside Skills Project operates, where practicable, in accordance with the charity’s ethos and meets the operating deficit/surplus requirements agreed each year. Plan the work schedules and activities, promote any products that are produced and plan for the school’s development accordingly. Work within the appropriate policies, procedures, practices and controls (identifying and putting in place any that are necessary for the work area) and ensure that appropriate recording and reporting arrangements are used to support and evidence the meeting of CVT contractual and regulatory requirements, having particular regard to Safer Food Better Business (Catering) and health and safety requirements. Maintain clear, accurate and up to date information, recording information in a timely manner. Provide any information and documentation requested by relevant management and funders. Undertake other tasks as required individually or with others to develop and maintain the high quality of service required to fulfil the vision of the Trust, for example, actively participating in team meetings and in relevant training and involvement of the department in supporting regular events and holiday activities. Work closely with the Vocational Skills Coordinator & Vocational Learning & Development Manager to support trainees in achieving the next steps on their pathways towards volunteering or employment. Work closely with colleagues and unit holders across the Gloucestershire communities to identify opportunities for work experience, supported volunteering and supported employment. Work to support the development of a sustainable visitor centre operating with a strong customer service focus. Comply with the Trust’s policies and procedures, including safeguarding, equality & diversity and data protection. Comply with the statutory provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Employees must look after their own health, safety and welfare and be mindful of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees must co-operate and comply with management instructions regarding Health and Safety issues and report all accidents, incidents and problems as soon as practicable to their manager or other senior members of staff where necessary. Ensure that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times. Attend and participate in team meetings, 1-2-1 supervision sessions and other meetings as required in line with the post. Undertake any other duties which are consistent with this post, as directed by line management. This may include participation in weekend or evening events at Taurus Crafts. Please be aware that this is a bank role, similar to a zero hours contract, and therefore there will not be a guaranteed number of weekly hours, and working times may differ from week to week. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Maths & English level 2 (GCSE Level A-C) pass or equivalent. Minimum level 2 food safety certificate. Level 2 teaching qualification (AET) or similar (or willingness to work towards this). Desirable Emergency first aid certificate training or an ability to update. Safeguarding level 2 knowledge or higher. Additional relevant vocational qualifications: retail, catering, hospitality, management. Level 2 in health and social care (or willingness to work towards this). Knowledge & Experience Essential Minimum 2 years’ experience in a teaching/training role. Relevant vocational specialism knowledge e.g. hospitality/ catering/ upcycling/ admin. Full clean driving licence. Desirable Teaching or working with people with learning disabilities or autism or similar client group. Developing and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships. Personal Attributes Passionate about creating work opportunities for people with learning disabilities and motivating and supporting them at work. An attitude towards others based on respect, dignity, and equality. Commercially aware, numerate, able to manage budgets. Able to work with little supervision. Highly organised, good planning skills and efficient. Able to work under pressure. Reliable and punctual. Considerate, friendly and approachable. Confident and capable of lone working and travelling off-site as needed. Solution seeking, creative and resourceful, innovative problem solver. Flexible attitude, willing to try new activities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Open to challenge. Encouraging, able to motivate others. Resilient, confident, able to take on responsibility. Is a team worker, hands-on, ability to problem solve. An ability to lead a mixed abilities team including people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and others facing barriers to participation in society and work. A sense of humour and a positive attitude. An ability to support the training and development of others. Strong interpersonal skills.
