Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to work with Energy on the Norwich to Tilbury scheme, part of our delivery of the Great Grid partnership (GGP). The project is currently mobilising the project teams to support early works, including DCO support, ahead of site commencement in mid‑2027. The works will be coordinated from our Stone Cross (Warrington) office, with GGP support in Birmingham, working with the client based in Bury St Edmunds. Once mobilised, teams will be based on site in the Colchester and Braintree areas. Construction is planned from mid‑2027 to mid‑2031.
A Day in the Life
* Fully accountable for the project delivery, ensuring it is completed safely, on time, within contract requirements and budget.
* Overall management and coordination of project delivery, including multiple disciplines in large‑scale projects.
* Sets the overall standard on projects/contract.
* Ensures project requirements are identified and delivered.
* Identifies issues and ensures they are resolved in a controlled and timely manner.
* Ensures contract programmes are planned, reviewed, and delivered.
* Line‑manages Project, Construction Site, and Engineering Managers.
* Responsible for effective client relationship management and cooperative stakeholder updates.
* Ensures operating plans provide sufficient resources and materials.
* Expected to resolve most operational issues, with business‑critical issues referred to the Project Director.
* Responsible for all commercial activities, including gross margin delivery, cost control, and key financial metrics.
* Manages subcontractor performance, cost control, and commercial metrics.
Qualifications
* Experience delivering HV Transmission & Distribution or major civils projects.
* Experience in a Project Management role.
* HNC/HND or NVQ Level 5 (or Degree).
* Experience working on complex multi‑discipline enhancement projects, delivering within programme and cost controls.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, developing close working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
