Working within the AtkinsRéalis Transportation Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) team, the Health & Safety Manager (HSM) will support the HSE Director to provide a business partner approach, supporting the development and delivery of the Transportation HSE Business Plan and risk-based initiatives within the Transportation business. As an experienced, confident, and motivated HSE leader the HSM Manager is required to develop and sustain key stakeholder relationships across the business unit Market & Practices. Supporting and advising on industry best practice the HSM will demonstrate visible leadership and a proactive approach to HSE management, supporting the development of HSE plans that align with the Transportation HSE Business Plan and risk profiles. This Role Profile shall be reviewed prior to organisational change, during annual appraisal, or at any time significant change to content becomes apparent. The amended Role Profile shall be agreed, signed, and dated prior to re‑issue.
Your role
 * Support the delivery of the Transportation HSE Business Plan. Support the development of business plans and communication strategies in the markets and practices.
 * Work with the project leadership team to identify and review their risk profiles, providing alignment to the wider Transportation HSE strategic objectives.
 * Provide day to day operational support to the teams, prioritising and managing time as required.
 * Be responsible for the monitoring and close out of incident reports relating to AtkinsRéalis employees in required timeframes.
 * Support the investigation of incidents proportionate to the severity of the event, either through the provision of competent advice, supporting the investigation lead(s), or completing the investigation when appropriate. Share learning outcomes.
 * Escalate significant incidents and examples of good practice to the HSE Director within agreed timescales.
 * Analyse HSE Data, extracting thematic evidence, reviewing performance against KPIs, populating performance dashboards, and producing high quality reports to stakeholders as required.
 * Provide subject matter expert advice for HSE Stand Down and Enabling events where required.
 * Assist with the coordination and communication of best practice & learning material which may include industry best practice and innovation. Promote the use of safe by design principles, and the reporting of design close calls.
 * Support the leadership teams to identify training requirements pertaining to roles & responsibilities and assist with the development and or review of training matrices.
 * Attend HSE meetings reporting on significant updates.
 * Provide written and verbal updates following attendance at internal and external engagement activities or forums, highlighting significant (SMART) actions, action owners and timescales as applicable.
 * Support the delivery of compliance activities including audit and assurance activities and Visible Safety Leadership tours. Provide delegation support as required.
 * Become an expert on the AtkinsRéalis Safety Management Systems and processes, providing clear guidance on appropriate and proportionate application. Work collaboratively across Transportation and the wider business for the best interests of the team, project, and business.
 * Actively represent AtkinsRéalis at external industry forums, conferences and client meetings to build networks, share best practice and strengthen AtkinsRéalis profile.
About you
 * Possess a strong working knowledge of HSE regulatory requirements that can be applied across the Transportation business.
 * Have experience of roles and responsibilities under CDM2015 particularly, Client, Principal Designer & Designer.
 * Hold a minimum of Certificate level relevant HSEW qualifications and be working toward Diploma.
 * Evidence that they keep the relevant training and development up to date.
 * Hold a recognised HSEW professional membership (e.g. IOSH or IIRSM), and be maintaining CPD.
 * Have experience of leading and supporting incident investigations.
 * Have experience of working in a rail, highways and or local authority environment.
 * Exhibit strong people skills, be someone who can partner, empower, enable, and influence a wide variety of internal & external stakeholders.
 * Be a motivational force for all to take ownership of getting home safe and well.
 * Champion innovation: be able to constructively challenge the norm and suggest and implement innovative solutions for safety.
 * Be an effective communicator, exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 * Demonstrate a calm and confident manner, be approachable, act within integrity, care and respect.
 * Give practical and useful advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders in agreed timeframes.
 * Be a high-level user of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI and Excel.
 * Be a demonstrable leader in all aspects of HSEW practice, culture, and behaviour throughout our Transportation business.

Security clearance
