Head of Maths AoLE - Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi VA

Salary: Pay Scale Within: £33,731 - £51,942 + TLR 2B £5,973

Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi VA is a 3-16 Church in Wales school that serves the historic city of St. Davids and surrounding areas. Based in the picturesque surroundings of the Pembrokeshire National Park, the school is a caring, inclusive and welcoming environment where pupils and staff are proud of the Christian and community ethos. YPDVA has an outstanding tradition and reputation for using its unique environment to drive authentic learning experiences, evidenced by the cameo commissioned by Estyn following their Autumn 2022 Inspection. The school is a lead network school for the Swansea University ITE programme.

If you are a highly motivated practitioner with a passion for the teaching and learning of Maths and you are excited by the prospect of leading one of the strongest Maths AOLEs in the county, read on. For September 2026, the school is seeking to appoint a Head of Maths Area of Learning. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator who is ready to take the next step in their career and contribute to shaping the future of Maths across our all‑age school.

We are equally open to appointing an experienced middle leader or an exceptional classroom teacher who demonstrates strong leadership potential, including robust organisational skills, the ability to inspire both learners and colleagues, and the ambition to drive high standards across the department. For the right candidate, we are committed to providing mentoring throughout the first year of the role.

Applications are warmly welcomed from both primary‑trained and secondary‑trained teachers who can bring creativity, ambition and a commitment to high standards. However, teaching up to and including GCSE is essential.

As we continue to align with the latest curriculum developments, you will play a key role in helping us build an innovative, future‑focused learning environment where your ideas and expertise can make a genuine impact. We are a supportive department with good outcomes which we build on year on year.

There is also the possibility of an additional interim payment and/or management time linked to our MAT and SEREN programme if this aligns with your interests.

We are very proud of our school and would be delighted to welcome prospective applicants for a visit—either during the school day or after school—to discuss the role further and to give you a real sense of our Christian ethos, our learners, and our vision.
