SHEQ Manager Job Description
Due to sustained growth, Castlemead Group is seeking an experienced and motivated SHEQ Manager to take ownership of the Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Responsibilities of the organisation. This is a tremendous opportunity for the right candidate to make a difference within an evolving organisation.
We are a Wrexham based construction company, with other sites currently in North West Wales, Mid Wales and Cheshire. We focus on building quality, high specification projects. We create new build houses and apartment blocks along with Health Care Centres and Residential Homes.
Key Requirements
Essential:
* Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety
* 5 years of experience working within a SHEQ position
* Previous experience in a Health & Safety role within construction.
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), IOSH membership, or working towards higher qualifications (e.g., Level 6 NVQ in Health & Safety).
* Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
* Full UK Driving Licence and CSCS card.
* Ability to deliver training, audits, and clear safety reports.
* IT literacy with good record-keeping and reporting skills.
Desirable:
* Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or Construction Institute to incorporated or chartered level. (desirable)
* SSSTS qualification.
* Face Fit Tester certification.
* Working knowledge of ISO standards and CDM Regulations
* NEBOSH certification
* Knowledge of COSHH risk assessments – Hazardous substances
* Strong understanding of safe working practices with construction processes in the housebuilding and apartment construction sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the delivery of the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy.
* Ensure Project/Site managers assume the correct responsibility associated with their normal activities. By acting as the main point of contact for advice and expertise on Health & Safety matters.
* Undertake reviews of documentation, participate in site safety meetings, H&S Audits & Sensible Monitoring Inspections.
* Provide monthly H&S data & safety statistics to Directors as needed, along with monthly SHE performance bulletin, toolbox talks, and send this out to the operational team.
* Seeking methods to implement and improve company H&S procedures, ensuring compliance with ISO standards.
* Complete Risk assessments/ Method statements and identify areas for improvement.
* Train various teams on compliance and H&S procedures.
* Stay up to date with regulations by actively reviewing guidelines and legislation, and ensure the company is up to date with any changes.
* Ensure our live projects are always in an 'audit-ready' state.
* Promote a strong safety culture company-wide.
* Producing H&S files for new sites, including the Production of Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans, Design Risk Registers, Traffic Management Plans and collating Pre-Construction Information.
* Ensuring Project Specific Policies have assigned responsibilities at the outset.
* Manage Loler & Puwer testing for company owned Plant & Equipment.
* Manage the upgrade of our PPE company-wide.
* Working with the project and preconstruction teams to bring together the O&M file and Health & Safety Manual at the conclusion of projects.
Health & Safety Leadership
* Lead by example to nurture our preventative safety culture across all sites.
* Deliver toolbox talks, new company start inductions, and awareness training for staff.
* Chair/participate in incident reviews, carrying out investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
* Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with UK HSE legislation and client requirements
Compliance & Quality Assurance
* Develop HSE management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO standards (9001, 14001,
* Work with external advisors and internal managers to ensure accreditations such as SMAS and CHAS are maintained.
* Maintain accurate HSE documentation, including RAMS, COSHH, permits-to-work, and training records.
* Oversee management of all health and safety equipment (ladders, PPE, stand-off kits, masks, etc.).
Environmental & Sustainability
* Promote environmental best practices across sites, including waste management, energy usage, and sustainability goals.
* Support company-wide initiatives for biodiversity protection and environmental performance reporting.
Collaboration & Culture
* Engage with employees at all levels, promoting a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.
* Build strong relationships with site managers, clients, and external stakeholders.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
