Contract Type: 12 Months Fixed-Term Contract

Location: This opportunity is available to those who live within a commutable distance of Birmingham and West Bromwich. Due to the nature of the work, the role is split between two locations. You should be prepared to travel to either B1 1AY, or B70 8BH as the role duties require. Please note there will be no reimbursement of travel to and from work.

Salary: £22,950 per year.

The BBC Flexi Job Apprenticeship Agency (FJAA) is offering an exciting opportunity to be a Level 3 Production Apprentice.

Through the BBC’s Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, you will be employed by the BBC and placed with Glenvale Media in Birmingham for duration of your apprenticeship. The BBC will work with Glenvale Media and Bauer Academy to oversee your successful progress on the apprenticeship.

The Level 3 Production Assistant Apprenticeship helps you gain experience in the exciting worlds of media production. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills while working towards your production apprenticeship qualification with our learning provider, Bauer Academy.

This is an exciting first step into the editorial side of programme making, giving tools for future careers in fields such as Runner, Junior Researcher, Broadcast Assistant, Content and Edit Producer, Junior Production Coordinator, or Technical Operator.

Main Responsibilities

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship?


* Interpret creative briefs and contribute original ideas for radio and audio content.
* Research topics, guests, and resources to support content development.
* Write scripts, interview questions, and programme descriptions.
* Assist in planning and developing productions in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Manage running orders and maintain accurate production documentation and programme logs.
* Book facilities and services such as studios, equipment, and transport.
* Support live studio production, including operating the desk and managing technical requirements.
* Handle guest logistics and listener interactions during live shows.
* Provide technical support to colleagues for audio and visual elements.
* Edit audio and visual content to meet production standards and platform requirements.
* Create supporting content such as social media posts, guest photos, and video clips.
* Manage the show’s online and social media presence to engage audiences.
* Handle archive requests and ensure proper storage and retrieval of content.
* Reflect on each production to suggest improvements and contribute to continuous development.
* Keep up with administrative tasks such as music reporting and rights management.
* Monitor budgets and resources, adapting to operational changes as needed.

What will you be studying?

You’ll be studying your industry recognised qualification, learning both on- and off-the-job in a programme delivered by Bauer Academy and based on the apprenticeship standard. We’ll also give you BBC Academy training, delivered by our experiences trainers.

An apprenticeship requires full commitment and discipline from the learner. Alongside experiences and training, there is an expectation of wider self-learning and the requirement to meet learning objectives and deadlines, as outlined by the apprentice standards. Apprentices must show the BBC that they are dedicated to accomplishing the knowledge, skills and behaviour requirements outlined in their apprenticeship learning plan.

Great Production Assistant Apprentices are those who can demonstrate they are:

* Passionate and curious about radio, audio storytelling, and how great programmes are made.
* Regular listener of radio, podcasts, or audio documentaries, with an interest in how unscripted content connects with audiences.
* Full of creative ideas for engaging audio content, from show formats to social media clips.
* A collaborative team player who stays calm and solutions-focused when unexpected challenges arise.
* Flexible and adaptable, able to switch between tasks like editing, research, and studio support as needed.
* Committed to personal growth, showing the discipline and enthusiasm to complete the apprenticeship and develop a career in audio production.
* Informed about industry trends, tools, and technologies to support their professional growth.

To Be Eligible For This Apprenticeship, You Must

* Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2025.
* Live within a commutable distance of Birmingham.
* By the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025, have lived in the UK for a minimum of 3 years.
* Be eligible to work in the UK full-time for the duration of this fixed-term contract.
* Not currently be taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.

To Apply For This Scheme, You Must Also

* Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level. If you do, we recommend applying for jobs at careers.bbc.co.uk or looking at other apprenticeship schemes at a higher level.
* Be available for the in-person assessment which will take place on Wednesday 6th August at BBC Birmingham.
* Be able to start on 15th September 2025.

During your Apprenticeship:

* A starting salary of £22,950 per year
* Industry-leading on-the-job training
* Teaching from our learning provider Bauer Academy, and where appropriate, BBC Academy training (may involve travel to locations across the UK)
* A Placement Manager from Glenvale Media who will oversee your hands on learning and development
* A dedicated BBC team including a Scheme Specialist and Scheme Advisor to guide you through your employment and the apprenticeship
* A 40-hour working week and 20 days of annual leave - may include evening and weekend working
* Access to the Nest Pension scheme, Life Assurance, Employee Assistance Programme, Remote GP; access to BBC Unmind and Occupational Health.

* An industry recognised production apprenticeship qualification
