Craft Painter Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth Bring colour, protection and precision to world-class engineering projects gap personnel are looking for experienced Craft Painters to join our client’s team working on high-profile marine projects, including submarines and warships. You’ll play a key role in preparing and finishing surfaces to exacting standards, helping deliver critical assets to the highest quality. What you’ll do Prepare bare substrates and existing coatings using systematic surface preparation techniques. Apply a range of coating materials by brush, roller, conventional spray and airless spray, ensuring a flawless finish. Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues within your area of expertise. Understand and follow paint manufacturers’ technical and safety data sheets. Maintain tidy and safe working areas, including equipment protection and husbandry. Apply damage control markings and raised tallies as required. What we’re looking for Sound understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations. Previous experience working in marine, industrial or commercial environments (marine experience highly desirable). Ability to read and understand MoD BR documents. Knowledge of submarines and warships is an advantage. Airless spraying and sign writing skills are desirable. Willingness to undertake further development training as part of a competency framework. Qualifications & experience (one of the following): NVQ Level 3 in Industrial / Marine Painting & Decorating. NVQ Level 2 in Industrial / Marine Painting & Decorating (with a commitment to further training). ICATS accreditation.
