SEMH Teaching Assistant – South Tyneside We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school environment and provide tailored support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to support students’ individual needs, helping to create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, helping them engage positively with learning activities. Provide targeted support to individuals or small groups, encouraging participation and progress across the curriculum. Assist the class teacher in implementing behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans. Help students develop social, emotional, and behavioural skills, promoting confidence and resilience. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher and SENCO as a SEMH Teaching Assistant. Foster positive relationships with students to support engagement and emotional wellbeing. Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to support students with SEMH needs. Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment in line with safeguarding and school policies. The Ideal Candidate Will Have A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience working with children or young people, ideally supporting SEMH needs. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when supporting students with behavioural or emotional challenges. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships with students and staff. Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt to the needs of different learners. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
