Theatre Practitioner – Woodlands Hospital, Darlington
Part-time (34.5 hours per week) | Permanent | Salary up to £35,000 FTE per year (depending on experience, training, qualification)
Overview
Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, part of Circle Health Group, employs a Theatre Practitioner to support surgical teams. This role covers flexible shift patterns and works within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and efficient surgical lists.
Duties
* Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; provide post-operative care, monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea, and ensure patient readiness for discharge.
* Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
* Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
* Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
* Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants must have
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
* Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
* Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
