Purpose of the role

BBC Education is recruiting a Producer to deliver this year’s BBC 500 Words, the UK’s most successful children’s story writing competition, which celebrates creativity and imagination rather than spelling, punctuation or grammar. The competition, for primary school‑aged children, is run by Bitesize and supported by programmes across the BBC. It is made in collaboration with a variety of external partners who help increase the reach and impact of the competition and inspire children of all abilities and backgrounds to enter.

You will also gain a thorough understanding of how BBC competitions are run, ensuring it is fully compliant.
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
* Delivering the competition, ensuring it runs smoothly, is fully compliant and within BBC editorial and legal guidelines and overseeing the extensive judging process.
* Ensuring the competition website has all the relevant competition information, inspires children of all abilities to enter, reflects our diverse audience and supports teachers in the classroom.
* Identifying opportunities to increase the reach of the competition.
* Working closely with a wide variety of partners (internal and external) to ensure the competition is not only successful but reaches children of all abilities and backgrounds.
* Leading, motivating and supporting a small team, ensuring that the editorial vision is communicated and understood.
* Creating and overseeing the delivery of a promotional strategy to schools.
* Ensuring the competition is delivered on time and within budget.
Essential Criteria
* Extensive experience of developing or delivering educational campaigns for a school‑aged audience.
* Track record of producing, commissioning and complying with content for a school‑aged audience – e.g. films and articles.
* Demonstrable experience of managing and curating website content with strong editorial judgement and excellent attention to detail.
* Highly collaborative, possess strong negotiating and influencing skills and have extensive partnership experience, both internal and external, to ensure projects are not only impactful but have a wide reach.
* Ability to lead and motivate teams to develop creative content which is not only inclusive but engages diverse audiences, while actively managing team performance.

This role requires a relevant DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
