Are you an experienced credit control or finance professional looking to take the next step in your career? The University of Wolverhampton is seeking a dedicated and detail-focused Debt Recovery Officer to join our Finance Department.
Location: Wolverhampton | Hybrid working considered
Salary: Grade UW6 | Competitive with excellent benefits

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking team, where your skills in managing debt recovery processes and building effective relationships will directly contribute to the financial wellbeing of the institution.
What you’ll be doing:
2. Managing the timely referral of overdue accounts to our external debt recovery agents.
3. Acting as the main point of contact for agents, legal representatives, and internal departments.
4. Investigating and resolving account queries, liaising with student services and records.
5. Representing the university at debt-related hearings and mediation sessions.
6. Supporting the reconciliation of the Student Loan Company (SLC) accounts.
7. Assisting in the preparation of financial year-end activities, including bad debt write-offs.
8. Producing statistical reports and providing advice on income-related matters.
What we’re looking for:
9. Previous experience in credit control, debt recovery, or a similar finance role.
10. Strong attention to detail with excellent numeracy and organisational skills.
11. A clear, confident communicator able to work with both internal teams and external partners.
12. A good understanding of data protection principles and audit compliance.
13. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to support continuous improvement.
14. A legal background or experience dealing with legal processes relating to debt will be a strong advantage.
