Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the Planning and Highways Team, setting direction, priorities, and quality standards.
* Provide authoritative legal advice to local authority clients, including senior officers and elected members, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and effective risk management.
* Manage a complex caseload involving major development proposals, highways matters, and related statutory processes.
* Deliver timely, well-researched legal opinions and effective representation in hearings, tribunals, and negotiations.
* Instruct and manage external counsel as required, ensuring value and strategic alignment.
* Mentor and develop team members, promoting technical excellence, professional growth, and high standards of client service.
* Contribute to business development and continuous improvement within the service.
About You
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (England and Wales).
* Recent experience in planning and highways law
