Industrial Placement – Process Engineering
KYOCERA AVX Components Limited in Coleraine specialises in the manufacture of ceramic capacitors for the automotive and space sectors. We have been operating in Northern Ireland for over 45 years and our reputation is built on the quality of our product and service. Our customer base demands high standards in product reliability and development and we are continually developing our product and process to meet the challenges of the market.
We currently have a one year’s placement opportunity within our Process Engineering Group who are responsible for all the processes used in the design and manufacture of Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC’s). Our production facility covers a wide range of disciplines including materials manufacture, clean room fabrication and high temperature sintering, supported by product development programmes and utilising modern product characterisation techniques.
We have several high-tech production areas with state of the art equipment and this is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience. This is a fast moving environment - all about learning quickly, a hands on approach and most importantly giving you the opportunity to grow and develop your own skills.
You will be based within the Process Engineering team. During this time you will be exposed to a broad spectrum of disciplines including Design of Experiment and Root Cause Analysis.
An experienced engineer will provide guidance and assistance throughout the placement to enable you to learn about our process and machines, understand the requirements of a manufacturing industry and gain an overview of the Process Engineering discipline.
You also will have an opportunity to work with people in many different roles during your placement to broaden your work based knowledge.
During the placement your duties will include:
* Disposition of non-conforming product
* Assisting the Process Engineering department to provide support in root cause analysis using Six-Sigma principles
* Assisting in the design, completion and analysis of experiments.
* Creating / updating procedures, to deliver quality, efficiency and reliability improvements
* Assisting in the implementation of Lean activities
Qualifications / Experience
Essential Criteria
* Currently undertaking a degree in a science related discipline
* Entering your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Competencies
You should have a hands on approach to engineering and a methodical approach to fault finding. You must be able to demonstrate that you are proactive, flexible and improvement focused and that you work well in a team environment. Good communication skills and interpersonal skills are a must.
